This was perhaps one of my favorite parts of this trip. We had originally were scheduled horseback rides out to the prairie but with the threatening storms every day the horse back rides were cancelled. Instead we rode stage coaches. It was still a blast. The night started with the gentleman explaining some history of Yellowstone going back to Lewis and Clark, prospectors, fur trappers and cowboys. Then we all loaded onto stage coaches for a ride out into Yellowstone. Along the way we learned of more history. All fascinating. In 1988 Yellowstone experienced a forest fire. You could see the dead trees and the new growth trees. Yellowstone has 2.4 million acres and a cigarette butt burnt down 800,000 acres.
On our stage coach we had pardners from New Hampshire, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, Michigan, Iowa, North Carolina and Tennessee. Out to our destination some fine cowboys were preparing steaks and all the fixings. Yummy!
You can't see it in this picture, but there's a herd of buffalo out there in the prairie. How awesome is that!? Steak dinner with buffalo over there! Don't wake me up.
Who's plate do you think this is? Kevin's!
The night ended with everybody gathering around the campfire and singing "Happy Trails to You".
